on my CA gym membership

So I've been a Package Plus member for almost year now, and a regular Package member of the CA gyms for a little over a year.  I got my renewal notice in the mail, due in late March.

I've been happy enough with the CA gyms-- predominately the Supreme Sports Club, since it's on my way home.  I stop in most evenings for at least a half hour, longer on weekends and when I sign up for classes.

But I don't know that my use of the facilities is worth the amount I'm paying.  That's not to say that it's too high for the amenities that CA offers, but I think it's more just too high for what I use.  Rarely do I go anywhere but the SSC.  Heck, maybe I just need to drop to a single-facility membership.

I'd really like more classes, and I'd like more opportunities to drop-in on classes rather than having to sign up hours in advance.

(And I have a few other small annoyances that just kick in when I'm considering whether or not to stay with CA, but they are really minor, so, y'know, insert miscelleny here, I guess.)

Either way, I figure if now's the time to try out other gyms in the area, if only to reconfirm that I should stick with where I am.  Maybe I'm expecting too much.

So anyone have any gym recommendations?

  1. Try the Howard County YMCA. Lots of classes; nice new/upgraded facilities, and much cheaper than CA. It may not be on your way, but it might well be worth the slight diversion. Only two complaints I usually hear: (1) there are a lot of kids running around the facility; childless parents sometimes don't like that; (2) parking can be really tough at peak hours. Park in the lot at Veterans Elementary; the walk won't kill you. :-)

  2. Sorry; that should be "childless adults". "Childless parents" would be an oxymoron. :-)

  3. We just joined the YMCA also - so far I like it. I haven't had a chance to try any of the classes yet, but there are a lot of offerings. I guess there are a lot of kids around - but I haven't noticed them being in the fitness center area (where all the machines are).

  4. We're at Lifetime Fitness. I have been very happy so far. Parking at peak times can be a hassle, though. I have never had any difficulty finding a treadmill or recumbent bike, though. mac is taking swimming and there's a drop-in kids yoga class she likes. It's a beautifully maintained facility.

  5. Hi Sarah,
You make very good points regarding evaluating your current membership and if it is providing what you need to achieve your fitness goals.
During this evaluation, it would seem appropriate to map out your last 30, 60 or 90 days of participation and determine how often do you use the other facilities, have your goals changed?
I am sure that you could share any concerns (annoyances?) with the management team @ Supreme and they would give you honest feedback, and try to offer solutions if possible.
I obviously recommend Supreme Sports Club to you and here's a link to our schedule of fitness classes:http://www.columbiaassociation.com/content/getfit/classes/schedules.cfm?expand=3 You might find a new class that might interest you!

  6. As a kid I also enjoy several summer camps and classes. My mom enrolled me in a toddler gymnastics class and that's my fondest childhood memory.
