Columbia's slogan?

Atlantic Cities, a blog that's quickly becoming my fave urban planning blog, has a cute rundown of city slogans for 2011-- some political, some marketing.  A few of the notable, fun ones:

Baltimore: "A Great Place to Grow"(stemming from SRB's bid to attract another 10K households)
Sumter, South Carolina: "Uncommonly patriotic."  (yes, that Sumter)
Buffalo: "Buffalo.  For real." (okay)

What would/should Columbia's slogan or motto be?

How about a snippet of a grand-sounding Rouse quotation?  "Columbia: The Next America."  The danger of this route is that it might sound a bit dated.

Or something belying how fantastic it is to live here, and that everyone else knows it, too-- "The number two place to live according to Money Magazine," though it has limited longevity depending on where we fall, I suppose.

We could convey our uncertainty about ourselves.  "Columbia: an awesome city town suburb place to live." That's a motto that would only work on paper the internet, rly.

Throwback to when things were amazing but hey we're still pretty good? "Columbia: still better than most places but man that cheese shop was the best.  Also, Mrs. Z's."

Maybe something stemming from the People Tree concept?  "Columbia: a place for people."

Do you have any slogan suggestions for Columbia?

(Have fun!)

  4. Thought it was already "A New American City" or at least that's how Rouse described it.

  6. Please pardon the digression:

While working in New Hampshire I covered the town of Peterborough, which had this slogan on four signs at the town's boundaries: "A Good Town to Live in."

Never mind the grammar error (ending on a preposition) for a moment. This story came down to when the town was looking to replace the signs and was considering whether its slogan should change.

I was kinda hoping it would, if only for the fact that the first sentence of my story would be this: "Don't take this the wrong way, but Peterborough is no longer 'A Good Town to Live In.' "

    Alas, they kept the slogan.
