So I'm sick.
I've been teetering between "being sick" and just "feeling under the weather" for a few days prior, but I guess this holiday weekend, the sickness won.
This morning, I woke up feeling terrible. But I woke up and with no objective...ish reason not to go to work-- i.e. my temperature was normal-- I went in anyhow.
Clearly my sick brain wasn't firing on all cylinders. I didn't even drive in-- I took the commuter bus, ensuring that if I went home, I'd have to use the Guaranteed Ride Home program. That's fine-- they are a lifesaver and convenient to use-- but if I drove in, I'm more likely to just hop in my car and go home as opposed to analyze whether or not I'm really sick.
Coming off a four day weekend-- come on, how could I really be sick?
I got into work around 7:45 am and told my boss (after he told me I sounded bad) I'd go home in an hour-- I just wanted to get some stuff done.
Four hours later, he told me to go home. So I finally called up GRH and got a ride home.
It's always easy to recognize when people need to stay home from work, but harder for (me at least) to recognize when I need to call out and take a sick day.
And in the meantime, exposed your co-workers and the folks on GRH to whatever you have. Shame on you (please note this is gentle teasing here - not meaning to be nasty).
ReplyDeleteI realize not everyone can stay home when they're sick. But those of you who can, should.
I know, I know! I figured I would just be in my office and avoid people. But you'er absolutely right :)
ReplyDeleteI was hoping you would tell us how your GRH trip was...Garunteed Ride Home programs are security blankets and an incentive for people to use an alternative to the single occupant vehicle if it works well and people know about it. Maybe another blog post?
